Marina Tsvetaeva's dramatic gem draws from Giacomo Casanova's "The Story of My Life." The setting — a castle at the edge of the world. Casanova is seventy-five years old. In the final hour of the passing year, a red-haired girl appears before him — with a courage beyond her years, she asks — and demands — his love. Their dialogue is daring and irresistibly captivating, and the ending is utterly unexpected.

In his work, Valentin Rasputin honestly depicts the harsh and brutal world of the "Wild 90s," when the country was turned into a total marketplace — much like the real-life "Shanghai" market. It is there that the play begins, raising a vast layer of themes: from child begging and gang violence to shootouts and, at the same time, the mercy and love hidden in the hearts of the simplest — and sometimes the most humiliated and insulted — people.

Set and prop designs were developed based on sketches by the artistic concept author, Aigars Ozoliņš.
